Stars are colored! The hottest stars appear blue (top spectrum), the coolest red (bottom). One can arrange stellar spectra by the strength and characteristics of their lines, thus creating the spectral sequence: O - B - A - F - G - K - M. Surface temperatures of the stars are noted at right.
