Details on the mechanism we built to help mount the filter
wheel assembly on the telescope
The support system part 1

- Had to cut a hole here to insert the doodad at the bottom of
the filter wheel plate. The sides are also cut at an angle to
support the rounded bottom of the plate.
- Long base to support the weight. Yes, it does work; there's
no need to clamp it to the table. In fact, the angle will
probably be ever so slightly off, so you'll want to shove
something underneath this part to adjust it.
- Put this thing on the hydraulic table and do your
worst!

From a different angle

- Here's an engineering question: So the Schmidt telescope
tube has a flat machined into it on the south side of the tube
where you mount the whole filter wheel setup (so that the normal to
the flat is aligned to the South when the telescope is pointing
at the zenith). Given that the telescope is at a latitude of +30
degrees and is equitorially mounted, when the telescope is in the
stow position (horizontal to the floor), what's the angle of the
of the flat relative to the floor?
- Answer: not 30 degrees, because we park it at more like +20.
So if this thing ever breaks, keep that in mind so you don't make
the same mistake we did!
